Moments from the book Twilight

Part 6!

Most quotes are from Chapter 14, Mind Over Matter.

I'm cutting down on the five-page long excerpts, now! XD

After the first kiss:
"Immediately I felt him turn to unresponsive stone beneath my lips. His hands gently, but with irresistible force, pushed my face back. I opened my eyes and saw his guarded expression.
"Oops," I breathed.
"That's an understatement."
His eyes were wild, his jaw clenched in acute restraint, yet he didn't lapse from his perfect articulation...
"Should I...?" I tried to disengage myself, to give him some room.
His hands refused to let me move so much as an inch.
"No, it's tolerable. Wait for a moment, please."

...

"Are you still faint from the run? Or was it my kissing expertise?" How lighthearted, how human he seemed as he laughed now, his seraphic face untroubled. He was a different Edward than the one I had known. And I felt all the more besotted by him. It would cause me physical pain to be separated from him now." (Note: It did.) -page 283

Edward's such an old man... <3
"He had turned the radio to an oldies station, and he sang along with a song I'd never heard. He knew every line.
"You like fifties music?" I asked.
"Music in the fifties was good. Much better than the sixties, or the seventies, ugh!" He shuddered. "The eighties were bearable." -page 286

Ah, Charlie...
"'Night, honey," he called after me. No doubt he would be listening carefully all evening, waiting for me to sneak out.
"See you in the morning, Dad." See you creeping into my room tonight at midnight to check on me." -page 296

Edward scares the !@#$ out of Bella:
"I worked to make my tread sound slow and tired as I walked up the stairs to my room. I shut the door loud enough for him to hear, and then sprinted on my tiptoes to the window. I threw it open and leaned out into the night. My eyes scanned the darkness, the impenetrable shadows of the trees.
"Edward?" I whispered, feeling completely idiotic.
The quiet, laughing response came from behind me.
"Yes?"
I whirled, one hand flying to my throat in surprise. He lay, smiling hugely, across my bed, his hands behind his head, his feet dangling off the end, the picture of ease.
"Oh!" I breathed, sinking unsteadily to the floor." -page 297

...

"Did I do something wrong?"
"No-- the opposite. You're driving me crazy," I explained. He considered that briefly, and when he spoke, he sounded pleased.
"Really?" A triumphant smile slowly lit his face.

"Would you like a round of applause?" I asked sarcastically.
He grinned." -page 300

Another Edward speech...
"That was the first night I came here. I wrestled, all night, while watching you sleep, with the chasm between what I knew was right, moral, ethical, and what I wanted. I knew that if I continued to ignore you as I should, or if I left for a few years, till you were gone, that someday you would say yes to Mike, or someone like him. It made me angry.
"And then," he whispered, "as you were sleeping, you said my name. You spoke so clearly, at first I thought you'd woken. But you rolled over restlessly and mumbled my name once more, and sighed. The feeling that coursed through me was unnerving, staggering. And I knew I couldn't ignore you any longer." -
page 303 (This scene was tear-inducing in Midnight Sun-- I can't wait to post it!)

A famous quote (though it wasn't in the movie):
"Just because I'm resisting the wind doesn't mean I can't appreciate the bouquet."... "You have a very floral smell, like lavender... or freesia," he noted. "It's mouthwatering."
"Yeah, it's an off day when I don't get
somebody telling me how edible I smell." -page 306

Chapter 15: The Cullens! It starts off the morning after Edward stayed the night. Sadly, this scene wasn't in the movie.
"The muted light of yet another cloudy day eventually woke me. I lay with my arm across my eyes, groggy and dazed. Something, a dream trying to be remembered, struggled to break into my consciousness. I moaned and rolled on my side, hoping more sleep would come. And then the previous day flooded back into my awareness.
"
Oh!" I sat up so fast it made my head spin.
"Your hair looks like a haystack... but I like it."
His unruffled voice came from the rocking chair in the corner.
"Edward! You stayed!" I rejoiced, and thoughtlessly threw myself across the room and into his lap. In the instant that my thoughts caught up with my actions, I froze, shocked by my own uncontrolled enthusiasm. I stared up at him, afraid that I had crossed the wrong line.
But he laughed." -

After Bella's "human minute"...
"You were very deeply asleep; I didn't miss anything." His eyes gleamed. "The talking came earlier."
I groaned. "What did you hear?"
His gold eyes grew very soft. "You said you loved me."
"You knew that already," I reminded him, ducking my head.
"It was nice to hear, just the same." -

(AWWWW!!!!)

Blueabyss17404 recently brought this scene to life in a perfect painting here. *melts*

...

"What's for breakfast?" I asked pleasantly.
That threw him for a minute.
"Er, I'm not sure. What would you like?" His marble brow puckered. "That's all right, I fend for myself pretty well. Watch me hunt." -page 315
(Later, Edward learns how to cook from watching the Food Network. LOL)

...

"... At any rate, we don't have secrets in the family. It's not really feasible, what with my mind reading and Alice seeing the future and all that."
"And Jasper making you feel all warm and fuzzy about spilling your guts, don't forget that."
"You paid attention," he smiled approvingly." -page 316

Possibly one of Edward's best lines EVER... (that obviously didn't make it into the movie)
"You... made... me... faint," I accused him dizzily.
"What am I going to do with you?" he groaned in exasperation. "Yesterday I kiss you, and you attack me! Today you pass out on me!"
I laughed weakly, letting his arms support me while my head spun.
"So much for being good at everything," he sighed."
-page 319

And we are going to end today's round with that quote.
Ah, Book Edward, in all his sarcastic, black-witted, intense glory. It's hard not to love him to death!

Long live Bookward!

-Mrs. Cullen

(Yes, I know that that's Robert Pattinson, but this is one of the two only pictures of him in which he looks EXACTLY like Book Edward. THIS is the Edward we all love from the books. Well, except he's a little paler.)
